What is Pediatric Dentistry?
Pediatric dentistry is a type of dental specialty that focuses on the oral care and development of infants, children and adolescents. Since pediatric dentistry is a more in-depth specialty, a pediatric dentist will usually go through an extra two to three years of special training.
What is a Pediatric Dentist?
Pediatric dentists are essentially the pediatricians of the dentistry world, and you should put as much thought into who your child’s dentist will be as you do with who their pediatrician will be. Since every child is different, pediatric dentists are knowledgeable in a wide variety of dental treatments so that they can make the best recommendations based on your specific child’s needs.
Choosing the Right Pediatric Dentist
It can be hard to know what makes a good pediatric dentist, but there are a few key traits that you want to look for. First and foremost, you want your pediatric dentist to be knowledgeable in the various ins and outs of your child’s dental development and to be able to sit down with you to clearly discuss anything that your child might need. Secondly, a good pediatric dentist should be patient and be able to roll with the punches. How many kids do you know that are willing to sit still for an extended period of time while someone looks at the inside of their mouth?
When Your Child Should See a Pediatric Dentist
We recommend that your child should first visit their pediatric dentist after their first tooth comes in but definitely no later than their first birthday. The second their first baby tooth erupts, they become susceptible to cavities, so don’t wait until it’s too late. Find a pediatric dentist near you that will take excellent care of your child and their teeth.
