Does going to the dentist make you nervous? Don’t worry. You’re not the only one! This regular appointment for our dental health can be a frightening experience for many people. Anxiety is common and should be addressed with your HomeTown Dental team when you make your appointment. We are here to support you and keep your teeth happy and healthy. Here are a few tips on how you can make your trips to HomeTown Dental more relaxing.
The best thing you can do is tell us about your worries or anxiety you have about coming to the dentist. We can talk you through what procedure you will be having that day, even if it is as little as local anesthesia. Sharing this information will better your overall experience at HomeTown Dental.
Take Deep Breaths
Forgetting to breathe when you are nervous can be a cause of panic attacks. Here is a helpful breathing technique to use when you are at the dentist or in a stressful situation:
- Take a long, slow breath in through your nose
- Hold your breath and count to three
- Exhale slowly through the mouth
- Repeat until you’re calm
The Art of Distraction
If listening to music or fidgeting with an item helps you from thinking about what is going on around you, bring it with you to your appointment! We understand that the sound of the drill isn’t appealing to everyone. So try listening to your favorite artist or the newest podcast released to make the time go by a little quicker.
Nitrous Oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, is used when people’s dental anxiety can be too overwhelming. You will be completely responsive, but all of your fears and anxiety will slowly go away before the procedure.
It’s okay if you have dental anxiety! HomeTown Dental is here to make your experience go as smooth as possible. By using the tips above or maybe some laughing gas, we will help make your dental experience easy and stress-free. To make an appointment and to find if you’re eligible for nitrous oxide, contact HomeTown Dental today.
