Cosmetic dentistry, Mesquite dentist

Have you noticed dental problems caused by fractured, chipped, or missing teeth in one or more places in your mouth? Then you may be due for a bit of cosmetic dentistry. Not only will cosmetic dentistry help keep your teeth free from pain, it will also help you achieve the most beautiful smile of your life. As your local Mesquite dentist, Hometown Dental has the scoop on all of the best cosmetic dental procedures.

Crowns

Crowns are essentially little caps used to cover your teeth to protect them from any pre-existing damage. Not only will they protect and strengthen your teeth, but they will also help improve the shape, alignment and appearance of a tooth. While crowns are generally made out of ceramics or porcelain, they can also be made out of gold and metal alloys. These metals are mostly used to strengthen the molars in the back of your mouth though.

Crowns may be attached to your teeth for a variety of different reasons. Perhaps you’ve recently had a root canal that needs extra protection, want the color of one tooth to match the others in your mouth or just want to replace a large filling when there isn’t enough of your actual tooth remaining. Crowns are the most versatile form of cosmetic dentistry.

Bridges

If you are missing one or more teeth in a row due to some sort of injury, it may be necessary for your dentist to bridge your teeth together. Bridges are basically artificial teeth used to fill in the gaps between teeth. A bridge is cemented to the teeth surrounding the empty spaces in your mouth to ensure that they stay in place. These artificial teeth are also made out of ceramics or porcelain and can be matched to the color of your natural teeth.

Without bridges, you can develop problems with speech and chewing. When there are gaps in your teeth for too long, your remaining teeth will begin to rotate or shift into the missing spaces. This will ultimately result in a bad bite. Missing teeth also leave a hole in your gums, making you far more susceptible to gum disease.

Veneers

The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) defines a veneer as a “thin piece of porcelain used to re-create the natural look of teeth, while also providing strength and resilience comparable to natural tooth enamel.” So basically they are a great way to strengthen your teeth while improving your smile all at the same time. They will correct issues such as chipped or fractured teeth, severe discoloration and small gaps.

While veneers tend to be much less intrusive than bridges and crowns, they are also a permanent cosmetic dentistry solution. They are completely irreversible, so it is a big decision to have them placed on your teeth. They also take at least two office visits to fully complete since most dental offices cannot make veneers custom to your teeth in their own office.

Crowns, bridges and veneers are all excellent ways to strengthen your teeth and significantly improve your smile. While not all of these will be great solutions for everyone, these cosmetic dentistry options will prevent more damage to your teeth if they are already fractured or chipped.
